With funding from Children in Need, the Bradby Club was able to take 7 young people away in August to Outward Bound in Aberdovey, Wales. This residential experience provides the young people with opportunities and activities that develop and encourage teamwork, leadership and challenging them to do more than they think they can. It was in Wales, so obviously we saw a lot of rain but in between the rain, canoeing, climbing and leaping the young people gained valuable experience and skills that we hope will accompany them back to the Centre. The residential also included a 2 day expedition where the young people got the chance to sleep in a log cabin on the side of a mountain; we had a few questions about vacant plug sockets, lavatory being a tree etc but the real luxury of this experience which I feel passed our young people by, was not having to pitch a tent in the rain! Priceless!! The following day all our young participants scaled Tarrenhendre via a few other questionable hills. The young people did so well in keeping moral high and encouraging each other to keep going, there were a few moments where even I had my doubts. A massive achievement and by no means an easy route.
We look forward to taking another group of young people next year!!
